What is Ecclesiart?

Churches around the UK hold works of art by some of the most important and exciting artists of the past 100 years.

Some of these artists are big names like Henry Moore and Tracey Emin, and others are less well known, like the muralist Mary Adshead or the textile artist Theo Moorman.

Works of art in churches include painting and sculpture – but also textile, mosaic and silver. These works are less celebrated, and often at risk.

Ecclesiart is a unique resource, mapping the range of modern and contemporary art in churches.

And finally: wondering where the name comes from? Ecclesiart = ecclesia (meaning church or congregation) + art.

We are grateful to the Jerusalem Trust for supporting this project.
