Ceri Richards, Reredos and Tabernacle in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, 1966 at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King
About the tour series
Led by Laura Moffatt, these tours are a ‘director’s pick’ of unusual and often overlooked works of art in cathedrals. Most tours in cathedrals focus – quite rightly! – on their architecture and on historic artefacts, but cathedrals are living buildings and the contributions of artists of recent generations comprise a treasure trove of delights.
We’re calling the series ‘Ecclesiart in Cathedrals’ as the tours are a direct result of many years’ work on a part of our website called Ecclesiart – an online resources that spotlights over 100 modern and contemporary works of art in churches and cathedrals.
Each of the tours will feature at least one work that appears on Ecclesiart. Sign up to our newsletter to be kept informed of further dates.
At each tour, we will be welcomed by a member of the clergy and there will be an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the role of modern art in cathedrals.
We also encourage you to visit the Cathedral’s café before or after the tour as this is a great way of supporting them financially.
Attendees will be asked to find their own way to and from the cathedral. A meeting point will be sent to you when you book your ticket.
