A+C and the Church of England Disability Project presents
Called As We Are: Disability, difference and the Kingdom of God
Called As We Are is a photographic exhibition depicting twelve leaders in the Church of England. Some are living with physical disability, one is Deaf and others are neurodivergent.
The photoset, taken by photographer Ruth Samuels(who herself lives with ME), comprises twelve beautiful and inspiring photographs which will be travelling around England over the coming year.
“Called As We Are brings Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people in ordained and lay ministries into focus and explores the enriching and dynamic contribution that difference brings to their personal ministries and the ministry of the church. This exhibition explores how what is often regarded as human ‘woundedness’ is in fact a doorway to a greater and clearer revelation of the fullness of Christ as crucified and risen Saviour.” John Beauchamp (Disability Ministry Enabler)
Each picture in the exhibition is accompanied by insights and observations from the subject, telling us about their disability, their faith journey and adaptations that have helped them along their way. There are also audio descriptions of each picture, as well as BSL interpretation.
The exhibition opens at York Minster Chapter House on Saturday 11 July and will be in place until Monday 10 August.
It will then be shown at the following venues:
Exeter Cathedral, 12 August to 19 August
Liverpool Cathedral, 14 September to 4 October
Chelmsford Cathedral, 12 October to 9 November
St Alban’s Cathedral, 10 November to 26 November
St Giles Cripplegate, London 18 Jan to 8 Feb 2027
